Following their inaugural album launch at the Clarence Jazz Festival in 2013, Mia Palencia In Good Company is now firmly established as part of the eclectic Tasmanian jazz family.
At the helm is outstanding vocalist and composer Mia Palencia, with 25 years of experience in the music industry under her belt. In her company are award-winning pianist and arranger Kelly Ottaway and bassist Hamish Houston, musicians of the highest order. Their self-titled debut album was recorded live in Tasmania and featured a combination of original compositions by Palencia and fresh takes on selected favourites from the jazz standard repertoire. An invitation to perform at the Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival inspired the ensemble to undertake a 3-city Malaysian tour in June 2013.
Upon returning to Australia, the ensemble was offered the opportunity to record a second album with prominent ABC Jazztrack presenter and producer, Mal Stanley. The album, dubbed Fleeting, was recorded live in 2014 at the ABC studios in Melbourne and marked the dramatic evolution of In Good Company’s overall sound and direction as they continued to stretch and shape their interpretation of contemporary jazz in the 21st century.
After many years of sitting in the ABC studio vault, Fleeting was finally released in conjunction with International Jazz Day in 2022.
Cheese Platter suitable for 2-3 people $28 – Book through Box Office
